Wonder-Full Steps #2: Small Kindnesses
Welcome to the next step in our newsletter journey! Thank you so much for connecting with me here. This weekly newsletter will show you a snap shot of my week as an artist - from the moments of wonder that inspire my art, to the final products and the faithful steps inbetween.
New Product - Tokens of Kindness
As you may know one of the ways I share my art is through custom art playing cards. What you may not know is that the printing process naturally leaves many ‘blank’ cards (i.e. blank on one side). Instead of letting them go to waste, I am recycling them into message cards for you to write on and share.
My hope is that these cards can be a simple way to pass along a kind message (personalised by you) to your friends, family, or even a stranger. As you can see in the photo they fit well into wallet slots. One of the best ways to give someone a moment of joy is to show them that they were on your mind, even when you weren’t together. A small token can truly do wonders.
You can even have one for yourself as a reminder to take joy in the little things, or to remind you that colour still exists - depending on what kind of day you are having. Swing by at our next market to pick one up for 50 cents. In the meantime, think of who you’d like to give this small kindness to. Who can you make smile?
Project Updates
The 12in x 12in Golden Penda painting officially has its green base coat! And the Window Scene painting is also under way. I have applied the white undercoat and drawn the guiding lines.
I find that the base coat is a strange step - not because of anything practical, but because of the mix of emotion it brings. It’s exciting because it means something New is about to happen. At the same, there really isn’t that much to be excited about looking at only a base coat - one colour by itself is… boring.
When you think about it, all well-built things - paintings, buildings, gardens, habits - all start with an exciting yet boring beginning. It’s easy to look at the foundation of something and think it isn’t much. But it is, because without that exciting yet boring beginning, the parts that add definition and purpose, simply cannot exist. So, when I’m painting a base coat, I will choose to be excited, bored and joyful - for the joy set before me.
What’s an exciting yet boring beginning you’ve had? Did you look at it and think it’s not much, or did you look forward to the future joy? What will you choose to feel about your next beginning? Let me know in the comments below!
